Did you send a cheque? If so I would contact your bank, are the owners going to let you cancel etc with refund of your money? I too would look elsewhere, although years ago we booked via an English lady a TH in Venetian Bay, then got letter saying it had been bought by an American chap, ended up having to pay in dollars (which was the reason I had went with a UK Owner) but had no problem with the new owner. Hope it all works out for you x

OP, I got the impression you hadn't even paid the deposit yet but were asking advice before you sent it off. Your last post made me think you have decided to not risk it.
Can you please confirm as others seem abit worried about you losing money?

Having read this again I can see you probably havent booked or paid a deposit yet. Not sure how much you were quoted for this particular villa but I would say £500 is a little on the high side for a deposit if it is a 14 night rental. For example we charge £100 per week booked.

I would definitely not book. We had booked a villa and later found out it was up for sale - I contacted the agent who said it wasn't a problem but he then contacted us two weeks before our departure date to tell us it had been sold and we could no longer rent it. He found us another villa but it was not to the same spec and a lot further away - he refused to give me back all my money I ended up finding another villa thru a different agent which was more money - a totally horrid experience

I wouldn't book either. I was about to book last week and when I looked it up the villa was up for sale so I didn't book. I don't think anyone should take a deposit without telling you that they are selling.

We got caught out a few years ago. The villa was sold and we only found out when I got in touch to arrange to pay the balance: the owners hadn't bothered to tell us our booking couldn't proceed. We ended up in a lovely villa but miles out. I wouldn't take the risk.

It can be a risk but when we bought it was in the terms that pre made bookings had to come to us

Hi,
sorry I had checked in for a while. No I hadn't paid the deposit when I found out that it was up for sale so no money lost. I took your advice and didn't go through with the booking. I've now found another villa so all is good. Thanks everyone !
