Blessed are the Breadmakers ...
I’m thinking of embarking on bread making whilst working from home and in lockdown ...
Any breadmakers out there that can provide advice or pointers? No idea what I need to get started... TIA |

I recommend the river cottage bread book, it has a step by step dummy guide in it. We received it as a wedding gift and I dug it out during lockdown 1.0. Good bread first try and had no experience of baking bread before.

My dh stated making focaccia when he was furloughed. It was really good and I think quite easy. He had fun trying out various toppings. He was looking the other day at recipes for beer bread but hasn’t tried it yet.

We have a Panasonic bread maker. My dad makes a loaf most days and makes pizza dough as well.
I've never used it but he says it's simple enough to follow the recipes in the book that came with it. I've been buying him different bread flour from Amazon to keep him out the shops. He likes Marriages Canadian flour. Today is a half and half white and wholemeal. |

We have this I get the white bread mix for it from Coop for 80 pence, stick it in with 330ml of water and press the button.
It’s not bad, a bit different to shop bought.

We also have a Panasonic breadmaker, gets used most days and rarely buy bread. I often stick it on the delay timer so it bakes in the early hours and is fresh in the morning. It tastes so much better than the usual shop bought bread.

Another Panasonic breadmaker user here. We got ours two or three years ago and haven't bought a loaf in a shop since. We paid a bit more to get one with an automatic yeast dispenser. Just put in the ingredients, press the start button and 4 or 5 hours later (depends on what type of bread you're making) you'll have a great loaf.
We make all sorts but usually a multigrain loaf. Just make sure you use bread flour and not bog standard plain or self raising flour. The best kitchen gadget we've ever had! |
