We have booked this route for this year (to keep the cost down!) summer holiday... flights indirect, Man-lhr-Mia the return is mia - phl - lhr- man.
Not ideal return but better than not going.
Booked in Jan for £371.

2nd trip was indirect MAN-LHR-MIA with BA and we stayed overnight close to the airport then set off after breakfast the next morning and were in Orlando for about 12pm. We much preferred this option and are staying overnight on arrival in Miami again this August.
The drive is a very boring 4 hours but the cost saving is well worth it! Car hire also seems to be cheaper from Miami too...
Interesting point about the car hire being cheaper - another plus!

Unless the cost of the fuel isn’t greater than the saving of the car hire...

We did this last october. To be honest and I know that everyone has different tastes / budgets but Miami airport is a dump and it was a real hassle.
On the way home they never loaded all the luggage and lots got left behind. In all the years of flying this was a first for us to have missing luggage.
On a lighter note... did skip the desk with alamo and that was a breeze. Stayed in miami overnight and drove up to Orlando next day and that was trouble free.
Next time though will definately fly into either MCo, Sanford or Tampa.

I guess that's ultimately what I'm trying to weight up, whether the extra hassle is worth it for the money saved, some of the prices mentioned on here suggest it might well be, I'd be thrilled if I managed to get them that low!

Its really helpful to hear the negatives as well as the positives, I certainly wouldn't be keen to return to an airport who had previously lost my luggage.

We've paid £400 for a 7 seater through Alamo for 13 nights in August from Miami... the same car from MCO was £813 when I looked 😮

August 15 and August 17 we flew into MIA from LHR. We then stayed on South Beach for four nights and then 15/12 nights elsewhere in Florida. We got a real bargain in the BA Flydrive sale last time and only paid £1900 for flights and car hire. At the time Virgin wanted over £5,000 for the same into MCO

£350 for flights! That's amazing! Is that for your flight this week, I thought that would be an impossibility during school holidays.
Of course!
I work in a school so stuck with school hols, this years flights are by far the cheapest we’ve ever got averaged at £350 (£400 for easter, £300 for august)

We did it last year landed 230pm leafs airport 4.30 had two stops and got to Orlando about 10pm. It’s an easy drive but even if you pick the car up at 6am with a stop you won’t get to Orlando til noon and lost half a days holiday as well as being knackered that day.
