Port excursions at Castaway Cay
Good morning!
Has one here done the stingray feeding or glass bottom boat adventures at CC? If so, did you enjoy them? I’ve never snorkeld before but would like to give it a go. Would it be too much to do both these in one day? Are there plenty of time options, so do one in the morning and one in the afternoon? Any opinions would be welcome. Thanks! |

Not done either of those but to save a bit of money with the snorkelling I would take your own snorkel, you can pick one from Walmart and you can use the life vest for free, there is cycling and floats available to hire, again you can just hire these on the day, if you like jet skiing I would recommend you book. I might be saying this as I have been a few times but we don’t book anything and if we do fancy a float or go on a bike ride then we pay for it on the day using your room card.

I'd echo the advice given above .. CC is it's own day really and to book extra things is not something I'd recommend.
Book one thing for the afternoon maybe, but enjoy the morning just mooching about, playing in the water and on the slide/climbing frame thing (Pelican Point). There are loads of bikes and floats so definitely no need to book those in advance. Having your own cheap snorkel equipment is good advice, but it's hard going without flippers unless you are a super swimmer. I would recommend spending a little more on one of the new style full face snorkels, especially if you have children with you or people who don't like having salty water in their mouths! The glass bottom boat is really only good when there is no wind and the waves whip up the sand and spoil the view. I'm with Tinkerella - get off the ship, find a good spot and enjoy the island on your first visit. The childrens clubs move to the island on CC day, so take full advantage of that and enjoy Serenity Bay.

We have done both the stingray and glass bottom boat.
We enjoyed the stingray encounter. You are in a small group of about five at each station and the stingrays are trained to take food from you on a sort of board. They are trained to go in one way and out the other. You can then snorkel with them on your own. The glass bottom boat was boring. You were taken to an area where the fish congregate because they are fed. I felt quite seasick from the diesel fumes as the boat just stayed in the same place the whole time just reversing when it drifted away from the fish. Definitely would not do it again. The glass bottom boat is run from an independent operator from Abaco. |
