Disney acquiring Fox- increased bid

$71 billion is an awful lot of money...

Just think what they could do in the parks with one tenth of that sort of investment...

Crazy that they've decided to do this at a time when a lot of people in the US are calling for a boycott of all things Fox...
Surprised Disney want to risk getting caught up in all that controversy!

...and there is a LOT of IP in there. Long term, this may mean James Murdoch becoming CEO of Disney, though...

It's ok. All us Disney lovers will pay for it with increased costs in tickets and everything else we spend our hard earned money on

We got a book in the post with an option to vote on this recently due to my son having a single share.

I may vote against for him!

Disney isn't buying Fox News, which is what people mostly have a problem with. If Disney gets the rest of Fox's IP then they'll be Disney programmes and films, not Fox programmes and films. Fox will still exist after the buy-out and people might still boycott Fox, but that won't harm Disney.

I assume James Murdoch would still work for Fox? Fox News and Sports, and a bunch of other TV channels, will still exist and not be owned by Disney. Disney is buying Fox's assets, not the company itself.

"Comcast and Disney both want 21st Century Fox to spin off a separate company called New Fox, which would remain independent after 21st Century Fox’s acquisition. New Fox [would not be owned by Disney nor Comcast and] would keep ownership of the Fox Television Stations Group, which includes 28 TV stations nationwide. It would keep the Fox Broadcasting Company television network, and it would retain some core Fox television properties".

I for one would feel better if the Murdochs were not involved in Disney. Not that Bob Iger & Co are saints, but the Murdoch/ Disney interface has the potential to be problematic becuase of the family history. Think Howard Hughes or Robert Maxwell running Disney instead of Walt...
