Indirect Flight MAN-ATL-MIA
Has anyone flown this route with VA/Delta? We're doing it in August and I'd just like to know what to expect. Any tips please and I'm also not sure if we are to claim our luggage at Atlanta or if it will go straight through to Miami.
Our layover time has massively been extended and if I'd known this when we booked then I wouldn't have.

We’re doing this route August 18th.
At Atlanta, it goes :- Get off the plane Go through immigration Collect luggage Go through customs Drop bags off Find train to connecting terminal Go through security Find gate. All very painless if everything goes to plan. We have 2 & 1/2 hours to connect at Atlanta |

We flew through Atlanta in 2016 with Delta. Never saw our bags from checking in to arriving in MCO. Never had to collect them and drop off again.
Delta and Atlanta are our favorite option for flying. Spent 3 hours in Atlanta and it flew by. How long is the layover?

We did this route last year and definitely had to collect our cases in ATL .
We were one of the first off the plane and made straight for the immigrations kiosks as we knew we could use them. We encountered Mr Shouty who said the kiosks were for US citizens only and made us go and join a 6 deep queue at the manned desks. I asked an official who was hovering by this queue why we couldn't use the kiosk and she took us out of line, bypassed Mr Shouty and helped us through the whole process. I thought we went through security and then went down for the train but I may be wrong. Secuity was also operated by shouting at the customers. Make sure you put absolutely everything in a tray or you will get the hairdryer. Apart from that, it was good. If you have a long wait there are loads of restaurants and fast food options and you can access all the terminals from the train which has notices up telling you which eateries are in which terminal. Coming back through ATL was super quick and easy. All you have to do is get on the train to the International terminal - took about 20 minutes. |

this!
the only thing is that you go through security before going down to catch the plane train to your next concourse. done that route multiple times (not from MAN but fron CDG which is the exact same process) this is a requirement though. No way around that unless you preclear and identify your luggage on a screen like you do at DUB |

That's interesting. We are on exactly the same route with these airlines and have had the same thing happen to us. Think we will be asleep on our feet landing in Miami at 11pm! I am hoping that we will get in a little early. We have booked into the Sheraton Miami Airport which is supposed to be the very nearest hotel (apart from the one in the terminal that doesn't get very good reviews) so hoping we can drag ourselves to the hotel and just collapse into bed
At least we will be in Florida!

Yes we are also booked into a hotel (thank god). We are renting with Alamo so will do OLCI. Then as you said, straight to the hotel. We're staying overnight at The Hyatt Place - West Doral. It's very close, we stayed there last time. It will be an incredibly long day. Our 12yr old tends to vomit at the end of long haul flights. I think it's a mixture of cabin fever and motion sickness! Could be interesting!

Thank you, I didn't realise that having to reclaim your luggage was to do clearance. I understand now why our luggage went straight through last time to Miami - our indirect was through Heathrow.
