Belfast
Hi there we are thinking of having a long weekend in Belfast, both myself and son are really into anything Titanic, so was wondering if anyone could tell me what else there is there to see/do, and also the best area to stay in. We would like somewhere with restaurants and bars nearby, perhaps shops? I like the idea of staying right on the dock area though so are there places to eat/ drink round there too.
Thanks |

Hi I live in Belfast. I go for walks around the titanic area and it's so beautiful the new titanic hotel looks beautiful it would be a good location as just over a bridge and a short walk is the city centre and a great wee place called cathedral quarter where there are so many lovely wee bars and places to eat.

Malmaison is nautical themed with loads of Belfast history too and is a lovely place to stay.

My favourite hotel in Belfast is the Fitzwilliam - stayed there about 10 times (my husband is from Belfast so we visit regularly to see family) and never had a problem.
I second the recommendation for the Cathedral Quarter!

loved Belfast, a lot better than my previous visit in 1989...
we stayed in the premier inn catherdral quarter as mentioned above its not a big city so getting round is easy enough, as well as the titanic museum (one of the best i have been to & takes a lot longer than you think to get round) i can recommend the hop on hop off bus which takes on all the historical sites, peace wall, both sides of the sectarian divide etc etc throw in a modest amount of pubs/drinking/eating & was a great long weekend |

Belfast is one of my favourite places to visit, a really friendly city. Admittedly we have spent a lot of itin pubs and the odyssey arena but between that we have also managed to see some of the sights too. We really enjoyed the tour of crumlin road gaol, the open top bus tour is also good and quite eye opening. I have yet to make it to the titanic museum and would also like to do a black cab tour as I've heard good things about that. All our visits have been in winter and have been very cold and rainy but if we could go in slightly better weather I'd like to go to the giants causeway and have a trip along the coast. You need to try a pie in the crown, sitting in one of the booths- lovely. In fact there are some great old (and new) pubs were you can quite easily lose an afternoon.
Hotel wise we've stayed at the premier inn titanic quarter, premier inn cathedral quarter and dukes at queens hotel. All were fine and as Belfast isn't massive we pretty much walked wherever we needed to go. |
