California Hotel Prices
We are getting married in September and had originally planned on doing WDW for the honeymoon. We got engaged there last year so it seemed fititing. We have, however, been thinking about doing something different and thought that we would pop across to where it all began and road trip around california area.
I've never been but OH has and we just cant believe the hotel prices All coming out at an average of £600 + for 3 nights. Whilst its our honeymoon and we want to enjoy some nice hotels at £200 + a night its going to get too expensive. Anyone got any recommendations for cheaper hotels? Even car hire thats £360 in Florida for 16 days is almost £700 from San Francisco Thanks

Which areas are you looking at? San Fran is a very expensive city, you would be lucky to get anything good for under £200 a night. Other places are more reasonable though. We went in 2014 & our hotels averaged out at £100 a night, obviously they will be costing more now because of the exchange rate.

See if you can book car hire with the your flight. I looked the other day and a return flight was about £630 and including a car for about 17 days it was £700 pp
Check out booking.com or somewhere like that, there are cheaper hotels available. A lot will be already gone for this year though

Try a BA package for car and flights it's almost always cheaper that way .
In general California is more expensive but it does depend on the clsss of hotels your looking at . For Anaheim in sept you should be able to get hotels for a lot less than £200 per night for a good neighbour hotel . |

Thanks we will need to do a bit more research I think. We are happy paying around $150, its our honeymoon and I'm fussy, but $200 seems to be the cheapest for just a normal hilton.
Will have a look at fly drive prices.

I have found that all the hotels in california are expensive if you want mid to high range. Our hotels have ended up costing a fortune, just tried to get the best deals possible on the ones we wanted to stay at.

We have 8 nights in California before heading to Vegas and the total cost is £1566, ave £195.75 per night.
Feel a bit gutted now you've forced me to do that bit of working out

Yep, I'm finding the prices of hotels to be a bit higher than expected. I've started looking on condo rental sites to see if that would be cheaper. I think I will just have to lower my expectations and take slightly more moderate hotels than I had hoped for.
For the West Coast experts, do you think it is better to get the hotels/accommodation booked sooner rather than later for our trip in Sept/Oct?

We are also going Sep/Oct and as of Monday night there, we have booked them all. We have used booking.com for them all on a no-prepayment booking with the exception of San Francisco and Grand Canyon where we have paid one night up front. I just wanted them booked and then if I find something I like better or the prices fall, I can cancel and rebook.
