Mobile Another update on Mason

The Neurodevelopment manager has just rang and told us that Mason’s case has been discussed with the panel today and he has been diagnosed with Autism. Not at all surprised to be honest. His sensory issues are the biggest hurdle for us plus his communication issues but he does have fine and gross motor skills problems too. The diagnosis doesn’t make a difference to us, it doesn’t change him however he will get more support in school which is paramount. I have rang school and told his teacher who is not surprised and its just confirmed their suspicions.
The last few days we have noticed a big improvement in his bowel movements, the pain has improved too. His walking is still poor, I don’t know if he is not bending his knees in fear of pain 🤷 If he is walking for more than 15 mins he needs to use his wheelchair which has made things so much easier as we are no longer trapped in 👍🏻👍🏻 His white blood cells are still a little too low but definitely moving in the right direction. He is now doing a couple of hours three times a week at school and is really enjoying it 💗
School have been brilliant. He will be going into year 4 in September. Currently year 4 and onwards are all upstairs, in fact two flights of stairs, as the school is a very old building there is no toilet up stairs and no lift so they are keeping his classroom downstairs opposite the disabled toilet that he is allowed to use at any given time. We really can’t ask for more than that.
Its a big thing at our primary school to move upstairs because thats were the big, grown up children are so the teacher and head are going to come up with a reason for them not moving up, just so there is no negative reaction towards Mason 👍🏻👍🏻
So everything is moving in the right direction, we are incredibly proud of him as he is such a brave boy 🥰

I am not surprised you are proud of your boy, he is such a brave wee lad with a beautiful smile.

The news from school is wonderful, as is the pain reduction.

Move positives with ever post!

I am delighted for all of you. ❤

What a lovely update - you seem soo much more positive even though the situation is still rubbish.

How awesome that Mason is enjoying going back to school - one big hurdle sorted.

Hopefully this is onwards and upwards for you all.

Battles are hard enough with a special needs child but to have the support of a school takes a lot of worry from your shoulders. So pleased for Mason bless him, it’s about time things were better for him.

That sounds really positive and good that school are supportive (as they should be). I know when we once got a diagnosis for something for one of mine I was upset but my Husband said, she is the same child, we are just now in a much better position to help and understand and get the support needed. That's always stayed with me as a good way to look at things.

You really are the bravest mum, must be such a constant worry. Admire your positive spirit. Not to mention Mason, he is a proper little trooper.x
