Would depend why he was refused. If he answered all the questions honestly and put a yes to something then its the visa route. If he messed up and put a yes where he meant to put a no, then its contact them and explain the error and do it again.

Therefore he must have answered yes to one of the questions. In which case it the visa route, which he may or may not get depending on the nature of the refusal. Its also not a quick process.

It they are coming with you on your next trip (79 days from your countdown) I would start preparing your daughter for the fact he might not be coming.

If it isn't a straightforward processing error (i.e. if he answered truthfully YES to one of the questions that require a NO) then he will need a full visa

Except for extreme cases (where they show goodwill) the current VISA timeline is way over 6 months for a simple processing case and easily 12 months if it is more involved

First step now is to call the US embassy in London and get some advice from them - but most likely they will tell you to make an appointment and come see them in person

I think the process is slightly different though, as Iran is not part of the visa waiver programme so he couldn't apply for an esta. I know colleagues who have had work visas arranged in much quicker times than I've seen quoted for tourist visas for people who've been refused Esta- I've always assumed they are handled differently. I'm happy to be corrected though!
