You might be able to get a cheaper quote for your daughter with another company, but we were advised to keep insurance together, so maybe take a new policy for all of you with a different company. Staysure, insure and go and Allclear are good for medical stuff.

Id be very careful about cancelling a holiday as they may only pay out for the child not the rest of the party as they would be able to travel.
It would be a very poor family insurance policy if it didn't cover not travelling due to the inability of a close family member to travel - I think even the most basic ones cover this as standard

This is important as if something happened that meant your daughter was in need of staying on for treatment or repatriation back to the UK then only their travel would be covered. Yours wouldn't because you would still be on the "old" insurance which did not cover for this medical eventuality. So at the very least include either you or your OH on your daughter's single trip insurance so one of you can stay/go with if required

This is not something I had considered but seems pretty obvious now it's been pointed out!

Thanks for everyone's help and advice ive priced up a few policies and its definately cheaper taking out a new policy than paying £400 to the one we have.

If you have to take out a new policy and it covers all of you, it would be worth checking the small print to see if your entitled to a partial refund on the old policy as you're not using it. Not sure if you would but it's certain!y the case for other insurances, motor insurance for example.

If you already had the travel insurance in place and holiday booked BEFORE she broke her arm, then they should not charge you any extra.

That is the point of insurance, they insure you at the time and take the chance that things change.

No, it is correct.

The OP needs to be firm with Debenhams.

My DD broke her leg last August - we were due to travel late sept. We had annual policy, I rang insurer to advise who wanted more £££, or hey wouldn't cover her leg/complications.

I stood my ground, asked for a supervisor and not surprisingly I was right.

You have a contract with the insurer to cover your trip, you declared all medical conditions at the time you took out policy, if medical info changes after policy is taken, that is at their risk - as long as the trip was also booked before the accident occurred.
