My Zoostorm PC packed in just before we went to Florida about 3 years ago. I tasked my Son with finding what was right for me and he got me an Acer all in one desktop and it was about £550.

It came with Windows 10 and I already had Outlook so he put that on for me. I find the machine suits my needs albeit I don't use it for gaming!
The big plus was getting rid of the tower.

I tend to have multiple Tabs open and if I am on Ancestry I can be searching on at least 3 of them simultaneously.

But. My Computer knowledge of machines is hopeless.

This is the spec from my current PC which is a Dell Vostro 270S which around 11 years old, so I guess most things will be an improvement?

thats a 3rd gen ivy bridge CPU. they are on 11th gen right now, so you'll definitely notice a nice speed bump with a new model.

its still intel vs AMD. intel have i3/i5/i7/i9 models, AMD have ryzen variants. if youre not gaming or need a specific cpu for certain apps you need, then theres not much difference in equivalent models (amd is cheaper though)

i use virtualDJ, and there are compatibility issues with AMD CPUs though, so i've always gone for intel in the last 15 years, so havent really been keeping up with AMD tech...

Thank you, that's helpful. Looking forward to getting something with a bit more umph!

AMD Ryzen chips are generally nowadays better than the Intel equivalents but as the OP won't be gaming then it doesn't matter which one to choose.
Just get the most memory and biggest hard drive you can afford as you soon run out of both, especially when running Windows 10 and probably even more important with the rumoured release of Windows 11 soon.

Thank you. Do I need to consider SSD or HDD please?

Disk drive wise you will be best off with a smaller SSD (120Gb) for the operating system and then a larger cheaper secondary drive (1Tb+) for the photo's.

Will most likely work out cheaper than one large hybrid SSD+HDD drive.

you can get 1tb SSDs for under £75 now, theres no point in getting a 120gb OS Drive anymore. drives that size are just too small. 250gb SSDs are the absolute minimum size someone should get these days...
