Melbourne airport

Hi all
I see TUI have changed airports from Sanford to Melbourne, can anyone tell me how far/how long is the journey from Melbourne to international drive and has anyone flown into that airport yet x
Thanks

We are flying there next visit. Its about 1hr 20 to 30 mins away. So a bit further out than Sanford, but doesnt look like too bad a drive.

Melbourne are rebuilding the airport to make it modern and easier to go through customs.

Though it's probably better to have a 1-1.5hr drive in a nice air conditioned car after a short immigration queue and a quick walk to the rental car rather than being held on the plane due to the immigration hall being full then waiting 1-2hrs to clear immigration then waiting for the shuttle to the terminal etc at MCO.

Ok, sometimes you get lucky at MCO but I'd bet that more often than not if you had 2 families arriving at MCO/MLB at the same time the one arriving at MLB would be at their hotel/villa first.

As TUI will be the only international flight in to Melbourne I would be surprised if they have many staff on duty so in theory the queues could be longer than MCO

I remember flying in late into Sandford and all the car hire staff had gone home for the night!

The thought of that long drive after a 9 hr flight is scary there no way I’d get behind the wheel of a car for a long drive
