I have been trying to call BA since 7:30 this morning. Not to get any of these flights, but to change December flights to sept next year. We have first class and there was plenty of availability this morning, but now that is gone and I’m trying to still get through to get the next day. My dates are pretty flexible thank goodness.
I’ve tried 4 times this morning, once I had to hang up to get ready after 45 mins, twice I’ve been cut off, at 60 mins and 30 mins , and then I had to go into work. I listened to that music from Glasgow to Carlisle.
Now I’ve been on for just over an hour.
Not even in March was it this difficult to get through.

It's the Avios sale, everyone is cancelling and rebooking or just booking. The BA tactic has worked.

The trick is to call the 0800 number but don’t make any selection. It’ll then just ring and put you on hold. I’ve called 3 times in the last 36 hours and I’ve waited less than 5 minutes each time for their initial pick up. They then put me through to the exec club and that’s been a 2-10 minute wait.

Got my flights. Really pleased. First class to LAX and back for next September.
It’s not during the sale but we can’t go any earlier.

We booed 1st class to Vegas next May, using one companion voucher 85k points £1340, like others have said only £70 to cancel so worth it & have 10 nights booked at the Bellagio in fountain view for $2000. Happy days

Ooooh, we were already booked for April with Avios and companion voucher. If someone was in my position, would you cancel and rebook for the lower Avios amount?

Also, can you book flying into one airport and flying to it if another (flying into Miami, flying out of Orlando).

I would really like to save the Avios, but I’m not even sure if we will be going at all, and then that’s £70 for cancelling the first flights down the drain!

We have a one way home from Raleigh booked in May with avios ( I think!) and I’m not re booking. I don’t think that the amount I would save , it’s an economy flight, versus the £70 to change is really worth it. Plus I was happy enough with it. It’s entirely a personal choice though. 😊

We booked business flights so it would save us 75000 Avios. I’m tempted but deep down think I’m just throwing away £70 because it won’t go ahead! x

Why don't you check availability for the flights you are thinking about booking under the sale first. You need redemption availability on the flights even if they are the same flights you are travelling on originally. If you cancel your original booking first there is no guarantee that the redemption booking class will go back into inventory.

If you try to cancel an Avios booking online it will only offer a voucher you have to ring up for a refund of Avios and Taxes. It is unlikely that BA will allow a straight forward "swap". My advice is do not cancel your original until you have explored all possibilities.

Hope that makes sense.

I have booked two trips for next year. I will definitely be cancelling at least one of them as they overlap , but I thought I will hedge my bets for the sake of £70.

I have booked flights to Tokyo and that trip will include Shanghai as well. The other flight is to San Diego and we will pair that with Hawaii. I could “only” get business class for both, it will have to do. I could have got first class to Vegas or Los Angeles but Vegas was a bit harder to pair up with Hawaii and we didn’t fancy LA.

I am saving my companion voucher for 2022, I will get more points value out of it when there is not an offer like this on.
