LAX Car Hire - Expensive?

Hi, Just looked to get a quote for 17 days car hire from LAX - over Ł1000

Is this typical for CA or any recommendations for cheaper hire?

That seems a lot...Ive just booked 18 days from LAX next August for Ł465 for an intermediate SUV.

6 people - 5 adults - we had one last year and it was about the right size
