We do exactly this too by DD.We top up Revolut and exchange to dollars when the rate is good. Then Transfer to our US account. We love the feeling of no bill in January.

If you pay using a US bank account you can pay monthly for that year. Whereas with a UK card you pay in advance for the next year.

Quite important this. If you are new to DVC you basically have to pay 2 years fees in 1 year. Unless you have a usa bank account the current years fees fall due by mid February.

Good point.
Another thing to consider: If you are buying direct, buy near the end of the year and get it dues free virtually- I did that and got points with only one tenth the fees. If you buy resale, unless it has current years points you’ll just pay the following Jan/ Feb. Otherwise if there are points you will pay on closing.

Thanks for all the help everyone, I have set up a Revolut account, received my card today and paid off a good chunk of my dues! I’m now in credit for next year!

Another option which I am going to try out is a curve card. It sits in front of a credit card and acts as a debit card. The advantage here though is that it has 0% fee on foreign transactions (during weekdays) and follows the interbank rate. This means you can link to something like the Virgin Atlantic Mastercard (no amex unfortunately) and get 0% but also earn miles. The free card has a limit of £500 per month fee free foreign spend.

Luckily (or sadly) we only have 100 points so I pay my dues in Jan / Feb (before late fees are applied) and use my council tax money (as we pay our bill over 10 months) to pay the dues on my credit card which has no foreign transaction fees. I normally only have to add a little bit to pay the balance.
