But at this point in the year, I'd wait for the next iPhone if you can... I always regretted getting my iPhone 6 not long before the 6S came out!
This is me.

Tom I'd go sim only for now, then once the 8 in announced make the decision, as if the 8 isn't right there should be some incentives for the purchase of the 7's (and likely the SEs), at which point investigate whether you'd be paying less in total by purchasing your new phone outright (or through some kind of purchase scheme) or by getting a new handset tariff.
The 7 is a notable upgrade from a 6 (and massive from a 5) and will remain a supported handset for a few years yet (I should think they are only just dropping support for the 5/5s)

Thank you all for the advice. Also for the link to the 'potential' iPhone 8, interesting.

Decision made.

Will do live chat with EE later and drop the contract to a 12 month SIM only with unlimited calls and texts plus 4GB of data as that's more than enough. My aim is to get that for £8. I love a challenge!

Then see how things pan out for the 8 as my Son will be getting that the second it's released.

In the interim my old 5 will have to lurch along and if it packs in I can always use my late Mums 10 year old Nokia if it will turn on

I currently have a 5C on a SIM contract which I'm thinking about upgrading to a 6S. However we have been advised by family to hold out until the 8 launch as then they may start discounting the 7.

Im with 3 on a rolling contract, and I'm also waiting for the 8, but I'm probably going to buy it outright even though it will maybe cost upwards of £900

I'm a iPhone lover and swap mine whenever then new one comes out , my 6 battery life was horrendous so I swapped it for the 7 which was so much better . Worth the swap just for that .

I then gave it to my husband when his 6 died and bought the 7 plus outright mainly for the better camera and I really like it , battery life is even better .

I said I wouldn't get the 8 when it comes out but I bet I do ;-)

I have swopped out the battery on my iPhone 5 .
A fairly easy job, you just need a battery off eBay or Amazon, you should get the tools with the battery. There's loads of videos on you tube showing how to do it .
£10 to £15 should do it

i don't like the thought of the wireless headphones ...very expensive to replace, so didn't upgrade from the 6 will have to see what they offer with the 8

if you buy the official apple airpods, then yes, they are very expensive to replace, but you can get bluetooth headphones now for a tenner or so, and as more phones start going wireless only, prices will drop even further
