How do you maintain your upvc windows & doors mechanisms?

Hi guys

I have composite doors with a multi locking system and upvc windows. Found this info on lubricating the mechanisms. Does this seem correct?
anglian-building/op.../lubrication/#

What lubricant do you use? Would this suit?
3-in-one/products/silicone-lubricant/

Also is an industrial Vaseline needed or can I use normal Vaseline?

As always any advice is appreciated.

Cheers

I have got a Solidor composite door and the instructions are:
On a monthly basis: wipe down the door with a soft, damp, lint free cloth, using a mild warm, soapy water.
Clean the door furniture clean by using furniture polish

Annually: Lubricate all of the moving parts with either oil or preferably grease. Lift the handle up and down 6 times to ensure that the lub works through to all of the mechanism.

Our fitter said to use wd40.

Didn’t read your link but in our last house we just hoovered the channels about once a year and put on some wd40! They were still fine when we left after 20 years.

I use neat Flash on the uPVC, then wash it off with plain water and buff it with an old cotton rag.

The hinges I tend to only put oil of them if they get stiff. To be honest grease is better than oil as hinges tend to be in 'wet areas' and grease will stay there longer and not be washed away.

However better to oil/grease with the wrong product than not use anything at all.

I use graphite dust. Never use anything that can attract dirt such as grease as this will just make things worse as dirt mixes in and acts as an abrasive - the reverse of what you want.
I do mine every six months - along with the locks (I have expensive high security euro barrels).

We do the same - as recommended by the door and lock manufacturers.
