AKL - Balconys... What Was your Experience?

Hi guys,

Following on from my wee discussion with HelenJNT the other day, I would like to ask those who have stayed in AKL before what your experience was with the size of the balcony?

I've got a Standard room booked in AKL and was going to just put a request in for a bunk bedded room and hope for the best with configuration/location of the room. However, we had hoped to be able to sit out on the balcony of an evening once the kids were sleeping to have a drink etc (that's if we're not zonked out too) but it seems from Helen's (excellent) TR that some of the balconies are way too small for this.

Are there any specific room numbers I should aim for to try and get a balcony big enough just for two to sit out on or is it really just the luck of the draw? I think the balcony is the most important thing to us and would be willing to forego bunks/location to get a balcony capable of sitting out on.

Thanks in advance for your help

When we stayed the balcony comfortably sat 2. It’s not massive and maybe other resort balcony’s are bigger but fine for us. As 2 adults and 2 children we happily stood out there watching fireworks and a storm in the distance.

We’ve stayed many times in both standard and Savannah rooms. All have had decent sized balconies. The ones in the standard rooms (not the partial savannah rooms) that over look the bus stops are dark as the wall is built up very high so not much of a view but still okay for sitting quietly reading.

Thank you for the plug!

Just for comparison, this was our balcony in a standard front-facing bunk bed room at AKL. It was literally the width of this chair & we had to take it in turns standing out there. The photo was taken backed up against the opposing wall, with no zoom!

And here I am touching both sides

Helen that’s not great.
I’d ask for the Kudu trail, I know it’s not guaranteed but it should get you a full size balcony and a partial view.
We have stayed twice and both times got our request and had a balcony that was comfortable for 2.
