Idiots guide to travel tests please

So we’re off to Disney on 9th November but we’re slightly confused over the test requirements.

We travel on a Tuesday so what is the earliest day we can get our test?

We think Saturday? (CDC Website)

Next what test do we need?

Can’t be bothered with home/supervised tests we’ll just want to rock up and get our tonsils tickled.

But what test? Will an Antigen (lateral flow) suffice which we get the results within the hour or do we need a full blown PCR which can take 48hrs and sleepless nights?

Finally we’re in Derby. Any recommendations on where to go.

Thanks

Hi, Firstly, it is 3 days before so flying Tuesday means Saturday is fine. Secondly, if they go off what they have been doing all year an antigen test will be fine. Can't give any recommendations on Derby sorry.

So for a Monday morning flight, Saturday would be ok? Is it within 72 hours?
We’re in Fife, but can’t find a centre closer than Edinburgh.

The CDC site specifically says 3 days before your flight not 72 hours and gives an example of flying at 1pm on a Friday. They say test on Tuesday to fly Friday.

On that logic a Friday test is ok for a Monday flight

In terms of testing and being in Derby I know East Mids Airport are doing drive thru and walk in testing with Collinson.

I'm at Loughborough so this is where I'm going to go for my testing.

I’m in airdrie and again the closest Is Edinburgh.

I think these places are normally situated on or near the airports - most of the glasgow ones for instance are at braehead which is right next to glasgow airport.

We are in Fife also and I think our nearest is Express Test at Edinburgh airport.
Dears chemists also offer the service but are closed on a Sunday.
BA have a code for Express Test "BA21" for 20% discount.
We will need to find somewhere on the 31st December as we fly on Monday 3rd January.

That's the minimum required, rather than the only option. The main thing is they need to be supervised if self-testing, or conducted by test centre staff.

For the OP, the current requirements (for returning citizens) is an antigen test. This is unlikely to change, although the full international visitors policy has not yet been released.

Please don’t book anything until the official policy has been announced.

It could be the same as it is now (which it has been for the last 18 months) but it might not be.

Now is the time they will change it if they’re going to.
