Which Universal Hotel?
Looking to book a Universal Hotel for a couple of nights in January for Tommy's 40th! It will be the 4 of us (the kids will be 2 & 5), so just wondering which hotel you guys would recommend? Is it worthwhile to book a kids room? And I take it you have to phone for the AA discount?
So many questions - many thanks for any replies.

Yes you have to phone for AAA rates, the Supersaver rates are excellent but depends on how many nights you stay. we always have a King Suite, but there is only the 3 of us, a kids suite would be good if you are happy paying the extra. Our fav resort is RPR, but you will be happy with any of them, just decide what themeing you prefer, and you can use the other resorts facilities.

I've only stayed at the Royal Pacific Resort (twice) and see no reason to change - it is tucked away from the parks which I like. Only a short boat ride or a pleasant 15 minute stroll away though. Has lovely grounds - 3 fab restaurants in Islands for brekkie and Jakes Bar for snacks/light meals plus the superb Tchoup Chop.
Hard Rock for me is right in the middle of all the action - suitable more for children and parents into the theming?

We've satyed at all 3 and love them all. The kids (age 4 and 7) love the HRH the best coz the pool is fab. It has a great slide and kids pool with fountains. It's also only a 5 min walk from the entrance to Universal Studios park, we found it quicker to walk back to the hotel rather than get the shuttle boat. We found all the rooms in each of the hotels to be lovely and big enough for 2 adults and 2 children, but the Portifino felt more adult orientated, than the other 2 - it has got a fab ice cream parlour though!

Stayed at both RPR and Hard Rock and loved both RPR seems a lot more peaceful than HRH, perhaps because it's further from the parks? HRH is really good, great atmosphere and, as already said, has a great ice cream parlour!

We have stayed at HRH and Portofino - HRH is best for kids.
The Portofino (which is lovely) is definately more sophistocated, where HRH is a fabulous hotel right in the middle of everything, lots of themeing and a great pool. I can't compare with RPR, but HRH is very close to US, with a nice pleasant and short walk to the parks should you want to. When we go back, it will be the HRH for us! |

Cheers guys - think it will definitely be HRH Just sat down and not had a chance to phone Universal - must do it tomorrow, but my local travel agents can get me 6 & 7th January for $389, (room suitable for 4 of us). I fancy a kids room, but travel agent are quoting $1079 - so a big difference.

We spent 7 nights this year, club level in a queen deluxe room after spending one night back in 2007. We also rented a cabana by the pool one dat and all i can say is id stay 2 weeks there, so handy just to pop into the park for a hour 2 then back for swim as its so close. No quening in universal with FOTL and we only had one evening meal as the food offerings where more than enough.
Look at the deluxe rooms as these have two double beds, a sofa bed large dressing area and plenty of room without been on top of each other. Hope this helps in some way. |
