Toll roads
Hi, I'm sorry I know this has probably been asked a million times. We are hiring a car with Avis via a BA fly drive. We fly into Miami so will be using the turnpike to travel up and back to Orlando. I've read that some of the tolls are unmanned and cashless. Any advice on what to do such as how we buy or activate the sun pass or drive through and automatically activate it via the rental company, etc. I'm really clueless, I need an idiots guide to explain it to me please

It's really, really simple. You don't do anything, just drive straight through the express lane in any toll. You'll be billed by the car rental company for the cost of the toll and any daily fee they charge.
Fees here. sunpass/rentalcar |

Thanks for that so not much to worry about we'll just drive through the sunpass lanes, thank you.

Note that with Avis, when you activate the system by driving thro the Sunpass lane you will be charged $3.95 admin charge for every day of your remaining rental up to a maximum of $19.75 per rental month, whether you go thro a toll on any day or not.
It's is not the same as Alamo who charge the admin only on days that tolls are used. This is the wording from the Avis part of the Sunpass website... $3.95 fee per rental day plus tolls (at posted cash/TOLL-BY-PLATE rates) |

Last time we flew into Miami with BA/Avis we used the 27 as it is toll free and very easy to get onto from the airport as we never use the toll roads round Disney and thought we would rather spend the admin charge on something of our own choosing. If you want to use the 27 it is exit the garage, turn right at the lights on to Le Jeune (953) once you cross the cross roads at junction NW36 get into the left hand side lane and the exit left on to the US27.
