DELTA Atlanta current flights mayhem
Anyone else get caught up in the flights fallout following Wednesdays massive storms at Atlanta?
Still affecting flights today with over 3000 US flights cancelled so far. We were extremely lucky. Landed from Manchester on time, next flight DL177 showing 1hr 30 delay, we did wonder what the massive queue was for at the Delta desk at terminal A. When our flight got cancelled 10 mins later we found ourselves in it Talking to people the queue was around 4 hours long, some passengers been stuck in the airport for 27hours, no hotel space or hire cars available From the queue after about 30 mins I noticed at gate A19 a flight delayed but still going to Orlando. I left my wife in the line and also on the phone to Delta and went speak to a gate agent Chad Morton (actually from Delta HQ but staff sent over to help), who I thought would just say nothing they could do, with 5 of us travelling somehow he got us on flight DL1110, the plane was there but no crew yet. I told another family to do the same who were in the long line and happen to be on our previous Manchester flight. They got on standby for the next 2 Orlando flights but had definitely got seats on the 3rd, not sure how they got on. Anyway we arrived at Orlando at 2100hrs instead of 1830hrs and our bags arrived on the next flight at 2200hrs Hundreds if not thousands of passengers not so lucky.

Main problem is that it wasn't just Atlanta that was affected. Because of the tornado outbreak airports up and down the East coast were closed. Caused absolute chaos. I think they're still getting aircraft to the correct location. Temperature here went from 91 degrees to 70 degrees in minutes. We had 4 inches of rain in about 2 hours, luckily no tornados, but they were only about 30 miles away.

Yes, DH is working in Pittsburgh and his Delta flight to JFK was cancelled, he's had to get up at 4am and drive there to get his connecting flight! Feel sorry for all involved.

I think a combination of doing what you can on the ground along with calling the airline and pulling whatever status credits you can is the way to go.
Much lower level volume issue, but in the past in UK has taken us from the back of a horrendous queue straight to baggage drop in a quick phone call. I hope everyone gets where they need to be with the minimal delay. |

My brother and his wife are currently waiting to board their 7.16pm Atlanta to Fort Myers. Atl showing a 48 min departure delay at the moment. I hope it'll be less eventful than their Man to Atl where my brother suddenly became ill, violently sick everywhere. The crew were superb, took him to the back and gave him oxygen with SIL monitoring his vitals. Bro and wife are senior SRN's, she knew something was amiss, couldn't wake him, he looked grey, she was concerned he was having a stroke (he had a bad stroke in 2004), he awoke and hurled. Thankfully crew were first class.
If you were in their vicinity on the Man to Atl flight today apologies for the hurl fest!

Cheers Tom, more luck than perseverance as it was the first guy we even got to speak too definitely sending an email of thanks for his help. Especially as most are complaining about the staff
