Post holiday blues :(

Ok, so on Monday, it'll be 3 weeks since we flew home from our Once in a lifetime trip. It was a brilliant trip, kids had a ball but, although I had a great time, I wasnt massively depressed about coming home. We still had a week at my sisters to look forward to before driving back up home to Scotland so think that softened the blow a bit. Anyway, it's only now hitting us all how much we miss it everything seems to remind us of our holiday and I even pulled an Animal Kingdom map out of my bag the other day that I didn't realise was there ((
The thing is, we really want to go back (even hubby, who I wasn't convinced would particularly want to although he really enjoyed it) However, unless I can get full time hours again as I did last year, there is no way we can afford it (I'm a teacher so with cuts and falling role in school, it's looking highly unlikely). I'm going to have to stress someone out so much that they go off on the sick and then I can get their hours there's not really much we can cut back on, our house isn't big, we only have one car which is paid off, don't smoke, don't drink too much and don't often go out that much.
Not really sure why Im posting, just wanted to share my sad face with you lovely Dibbers (who's advice was invaluable on our trip! We even used the sherwood road short cut )

This is soooo typical and we feel the same EVERY TIME we come back. No only do you miss the holiday, you miss the planning too.

My suggestion is, get a date in the diary to go back - even if its 3 yrs away and set up a saving plan to do it. You'll find that loads of people on here do the same.

It does matter WHEN as long as youve committed to it and started planning.

Enter loads of comps? Maybe you could win yourself the holiday lol. Also if you win anything that you can't use yourself then sell it on Ebay - any cash you make put it into a savings account or a money jar ready for your next time

Also like Aydeepee set a date, doesn't matter if its 3 years or 4 years in advance it gives you something to aim for & you know you'll be going back

I could get supply yeah but only at the lower rate if it's on a day to day basis although it definitely helps if it's a long term contract then I get top whack (for doing the same job, it's crazy! ) we did say we would like to go back in 2014 if we can and take some of our nieces/nephews who will be in their 20s or thereabouts, but I wanna go back next year! 2014 is also our 40ths so would be a good wee celebration I go back to work a week on Wednesday so my first port of call will be the Boss' office methinks to see if he can rustle up a wee job for me (hahahaha, I wish it was that easy ) think I will set my countdown for middle of July 2014, maybe that will make me feel better xx

I feel your pain! I think using the Dibb actually makes it worse - I check out who is going when, what the current temperature is and any news. My phone alerts me to WESH 2 breaking news and it all makes me a bit sad We're hoping to return in August 2014 after our washout in May/June this year but really don't think the blues will disappear until it's booked! Like you, I don't have full time work. I'm working as a Bank (like supply) midwife with only about 20 hours a week guaranteed though I do most of the time get 30+ so it makes it all the more difficult to commit to booking!

This is the trouble for those of us planning a "once in a lifetime" trip to Florida. We know that once is not enough, but it also spoils us (well me anyway) for going somewhere else cheaper...

I hope you do well in your fund-raising efforts !
