Mobile Dogs bonding help please

Hi I have an 8 year old chocolate Labrador who is scared of her own shadow and not sociable with other dogs (runs between our legs if one approaches) our son has an 8 month old beagle who my dog hates she’s scared of her. I who’d like them to be friends as we like to go away together and I would like to have his dog when he goes away on holiday and vice versa... but does anyone have any ideas how my dog can relax and get on with the other dog? If on walks they stay away from each other but off the lead it’s s different matter. It’s really worrying me now as it’s effecting us when we meet up. I’m willing to try anything xx

My setter Who was 8 at the time hated my mums westie pup at first they spent everyday together and now they love each other Molly wasn’t scared of her she was just an old grump though. I think it’s hard if one is scared especially if the pup is a bit rough and the older dog won’t put her in her place. I have a client who has a springer spaniel and is terrified of her daughters miniature dachshund because it keeps attacking him, I felt so sorry for him he sets himself when the wee thing attacks him. I told her they need to remove the wee one whenever it does as it’s not fair on the older one. I think as long as your sons dog isn’t terrorising yours they will eventually get used to each other

You need to socialise your girl with an adult dog that is socially friendly but polite.

A young dog that hasn’t learnt all social niceties and a timid/nervous dog aren’t going to be a good mix without quite a bit of work.

I’d suggest asking about/looking for some training classes with your girl, socialising in a controlled environment with help at hand. You have luck of breed that is willing to please. Then possibility introducing your sons dog to those sessions too.
