Supermarkets with Salad bars

Last time we were in California we found the fill a box salad bars in Ralph's which was a nice change for food on the go!. Any one have any other experience of other supermarket chains that do the same (other than whole foods)? We are travelling from San Fransisco down to LA doing Burbank and Anaheim!

Thanks

Hmm...Ralphs and Whole Foods are the only chain stores I have seen with actual salad bars and not just prepackaged salads. There is a regional chain in San Diego and just north of it in Riverside county called Barons Market that has a good salad bar, but it doesn’t sound like you are planning to go to San Diego. I can’t think of any others at the moment. Maybe San Francisco and LA also have some regional stores that offer that.

There are also several salad bar chains in California. Several times we saw multiple salad bars on the same block! Tender Greens, Mixt, and sweet greens were chains off the top of my head. We also find that both mom and pop cafes and cafe chains like Panera do a much better salad range in CA than you find in other places where the sandwiches are the focus and the salads are more of an afterthought. Gelson's and Bristol Farms supermarkets have nice salad bars too.

I love Ralphs - their website will show where they are based. They knock all UK supermarkets out of the water with their fresh produce
