Book Ba basic fare or not?

I’m looking at booking flights to Miami for us in October. We take 2 cases between the 4 of us. If we book the basic fare that includes hand luggage only, can we then go on to website and add the two suitcases on for a fee? It seems a shame to book the next fare up and pay for 4 cases when we only need 2.

Would it not be easier to purchase two hand luggage only tickets and two with hold luggage allowance ?

That would mean you had 2 separate PNR's for the bookings and that could create a few problems - e.g. what happens during disruption/seating/OLCI etc.

You don't get the same seat selection options with hand baggage only fares. You can pay to select seats at any time, but if you don't pay, you have to use your seat which is allocated at check in or pay to move. With other fares you can pay to select any time or move for free once your seat is allocated.

I am planning on booking exit seats at the same time as I book, can I still do that on the basic fare?

Maybe worth just booking it in case you need the extra cases on the way home.

We are booked in October as well as we usually only take 2 cases as well but we just booked checked baggage just in case. 🤣

Exit row seats booked if travelling on a Basic Fare could be £90pp in each direction.

Easier to just book with bags really as you’ll lose a lot of perks.
