Maiden name question

Hi,

We are getting married sept 2021 and we have finally given up on having our honeymoon then. (So many factors) anyway we have moved it to May 2022. The question is the holiday was booked in my fiancé’s maiden name. We will have been married 8 months by the time May 2022 rolls around. What do we do in terms of passport? Go on maiden name passport and take wedding certificate? Or change booking?

I travelled on my passport with my maiden name on for nearly 10 years. As long as the rest of your trip matches passport name no problem. Never got questioned and no need for marriage certificate.

When you say bring marriage cert are you saying it is booked in married name? You can't do that. Booking name will have to match passport name so she can just book it maiden name and travel on her current passport. I am married but didn't change my name so we obviously have different surnames and it's not an issue, they don't ask for marriage certs.

My passports still in my maiden name. I only had it for year when we got married and I’m too much of a tightwad to pay for another one😂
It runs out next year so will change it to my married name then.

I travelled for years on my maiden name passport due to the length of time until it expired and not wanting to fork out for a new one! So long as the name on the passport matches the flight booking you're good to go.
I only changed it when our daughter was born so we didn't get questioned about "where's mum?" at immigration with my married name being on her birth certificate.

If you go on maiden name passport on a maiden name booking why would you need marriage certificate? Well you would never need a marriage certificate for travel as travel needs t be booked in the same name as the passport whether it is maiden name or married name.

The name on the passport must match the name on the tickets and Esta. A marriage certificate wont help at time of travel.
After marriage she can legally use either surname, so can keep her passport the same, or even until expiry if she wants to change it.

So your options are,
- leave everything as is
- change passport which means changing name on tickets and a new Esta.

Many airlines will change a surname after marriage for free (even Ryanair will).

Many people always retain their maiden name. At work, on her passport by daughter is always her maiden name. At her kids schools she is addressed as her married name, the same name as her children.

If the holiday booking & passport are both in maiden name it's fine, you don't need to take marriage certificate or anything, I used my passport in my maiden name for years after marrying just booked holidays using the same name
