As I understand it, no. It's a one-way thing.

I've been taking the smallest dose of atorvastatin for about 15 months now with no issues. I did resist for a long time but diet changes and taking plant sterols did nothing to reduce my cholesterol levels and with my dad and older sister both having heart attacks in their early sixties i decided to try taking them, at the lowest dose, initially for 6 months. My cholesterol came down significantly and I've had none of the muscle and joint pain that initially put me off taking them, so I have stayed on them.

OH had a heart attack a year past February and, despite not having high cholesterol, was put on statins as a precaution.

He has suffered horrendous muscle pains and has tried three different statins and lower doses but no joy.

He had his cholesterol tested last week and it’s 5.3 so he said trying desperately to reduce it by diet over the next two months so he can stay off the statins.

My husband did, he lost weight , exercised better and his readings were so much better the doctor took him off them , for me with it as a hereditary condition , not though.
I think it depends .
I’ve had bad side effects with some too, it’s worth trying different brands if one doesn’t suit you.

mum was put on them after a TIA. Made her muscles really ache and legss swell. Sorry cannot remember name but speaking to others it appeared a very common side effect. Dr changed them and she is fine now.

Was on 80mg Atorvastatin (have FH) until last year when swapped to 20mg Rosuvastatin in case the previous one was causing some issues with bowels and you can have lower dosage of this one for same lowering effects. I think I’m in perimenopause as well so I have no idea what can be attributed to what at the moment!

I have the same issues - no idea what is causing anything since some things are hormonal - perimenopause, some may not be... not much fun!
