Dollar
Hi, has anyone hired a premium SUV through Dollar?
I understand that you will have to queue at the counter before collection, but do they assign you a car or can you choose? Last April we booked a full size SUV with Alamo & their service was excellent, especially with the "straight to the garage" option. Although we didn't get the option to pick our car, I was pleased with the 8 seater Expedition they gave us. After having such a good experience with Alamo, I'm just a bit apprehensive about Dollar, as I think they has a bad reputation in the past? |

I’ve always had Alamo over the years and love skip the counter. I’ve just had my March fly drive re-booked for next May as another fly drive. Originally it was with Alamo but this time it’s with dollar. At first I was gutted but I’ve since read dollar are stating to make some good improvements and getting good reviews. I’ve also heard they have a option to sign up a a scheme which allows you to go straight to the garage something i need to look into more. Dollar I believe have a dodgy toll system but I’ve never used toll systems before always cash and if it’s available I will sign up to the Florida one that’s been trialed this year.

I also have a Dollar booking this year, first for a long time. Getting a standard pick up truck for a change. Not bothered about skipping counter as standard pick up is highest grade so they can’t up sell especially with gold insurance.
Never had problems with Dollar in the past. Got at least three good free upgrades over the the years.

Dollar used to be really bad for forcing people to upgrade & adding extras on. We only book Alamo now, they are our favourite go to car rental. Would not use dollar again.

I believe Brits can sign up for Dollar Express, see Here.
From memory of using them years ago via a third party, I emailed and asked them to log my booking enabling me to head straight to the garage. Please thoroughly check your contract at the OUT kiosk states $0 to pay, unless you are taking their fuel option. Also ensure you receive the sign off sheet stating $0 to pay, keep that sheet/your contract for a couple of month and check your cc statement.

Dollar express only applies if you book direct with them, have used them several times for car hire in Florida as Chriss says double check you are signing for $0 on your agreement and don’t take their toll system either, costs a fortune, don’t see many people on here using sunpass, bought a transponder several years ago and just top up before we head off on holiday, let’s you run straight through the tolls.
Have used Alamo more recently and cars are def better standard but then you get what you pay for. |

Aye, not sure if Hertz voluntarily filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection/reorganisation will halt what may be inevitable for Hertz with $19 billion of debt. Filing can help with reorganisation, American Airlines did so in 2011.

Thanks all for the heads up & suggestions.
My booking is with DFCH. I originally had it booked with AVIS, but then the price dropped by over £200 with Dollar. That was a bit of a silly move, as i forgot that Dollar were owned by Hertz. Would love to go with Alamo but their prices are crazy for a Premium SUV when i send Andy an enquiry. Annoyingly as well is Alamo removed the ability to book a Premium SUV online, so there is no way in tracking the price. Not going till Feb 2021, so will sit tight and see what happens with Dollar/Hertz. |
