Connecting Flights
We are off to the US in May and have a connecting flight in Heathrow (from Edinburgh with BA), booked on 2 separate tickets. I realise that we will need to get the Heathrow express from Terminal 5 to 3 for our VA flight but can anyone tell me how much it costs? Thanks.

How long have you given yourself for the connection because as they are booked as two separate tickets if you are delayed on the first journey you will be classed as a no show on the second and have it cancelled with no refund due.
Please make sure you have plenty of time, in these cases the usual suggested amount is at least an overnight stay |

Just a quick technicality thing if they are booked on separate tickets you have two adjoining journeys, you do not have a connecting journey.
It's really important to get this right Airlines and insurers are under no obligation to help you (or pay out) if you miss an adjoining leg, where as if you miss a connecting leg (when it is all booked as on ticket) they have to do everything in their power to get you there and pay you for the inconvenience if applicable |

You will also need to factor in time to collect your bags, transfer to T3 and check in again then clear security. Your bags will only be tagged to LHR for the first leg as BA will not tag them any further as you have seperate tickets.

It's the usual suggestion when people suggest a flight like yours on here.
The thinking being as you lose the transatlantic flight if you fail to make it to LHR on time you want to have a chance to be delayed (sometimes by a lot) and still get the flight. In the case of Scotland flights if you plan to be down the night before and you get a cancellation then the flights the next morning would still give you a chance of making the flight. The way you have booked these flights is quite risky, and I'm trying to give you suggestions as to how you can derisk the issue |
