I doubt there would be many players who wouldn’t have done the same. And at the end of the day - there was a referee and 2 linesmen!
Don't you just wish VAR and Specsavers would have been around in the 80's

I’m guessing your joking but no!
VAR has not helped the English game.
Seems to work well in Germany but I don’t think we have the quality of officials to enforce it.

Despite the fact he cheated, I’ve never understood to this day how Peter Shilton, at 6’ was beaten in the air by 5’5” Maradona.
The best player I’ve seen live, absolute genius!
I remember walking out of the Azteca gutted at the result and the first goat but also happy that I’d seen a footballing god in the flesh.
Never got to see Best or Pele live

Not sure it was the best if you look at Englands defending!
I could still track back quicker than Peter Reid!

If VAR was around for that game, they would’ve given a penalty to Man Utd🤣🤣

I prefer to think of him as an opportunist 😉

Yes the defending was terrible, and if Fenwick hadn't been booked he would have probably flattened him, but the balance and ball control was sublime.

All such assessment of great sportsmen is very subjective and personal, but...

He was undoubtably one of the all time greats, flawed or otherwise. To me he is one of just four midfielders/strikers that fit the ticket, (Sorry George, but you are not one of them). Normally, I am also generally wary of labelling the current crop.

Pele (although he never played club football outside of Brazil).
Maradona
Messi
Ronaldo.
3 South American’s and a Portuguese.

I do not know enough to comment on defenders who might join that illustrious crop, but P Maldini may enjoy similar status... and F Baresi... and F Beckenbauer.

Gazza? Forget it.
