We have stayed twice , if you get an updated room your fine.
The corridors are a bit meh but you only use them to get to your room. Last stay there was 3 years ago so not sure if she is still there but email Vera, she’s one of the managers. She was great on both our stays, upgraded us both times and very friendly when we met her! |

We were originally booked to stay there this September with Thomson. In January we received an e-mail from Thomson stating that they had down-graded their rating on the Enclave Suites to their minimum rating and it was at that time removed from their list of hotels. There had been lots of complaints about rooms in poor condition. The Suites are individually owned so the quality of the room you get is a lottery. Some are very nice but some are awful. Changing rooms was also an issue as once the money was paid to the Suite owner it was difficult to get it back to pay another owner if room was changed. We, fortunately, were allowed to change (free of charge) to another hotel. We chose the new Surfside Suites belonging to Universal which were around the same price but obviously brand new.

Vera is still there.
It gets very mixed reviews , in some ways it reminds me of a Spanish three star hotel in that it has the facilities but lacks polish. Rooms are spacious and all have balconies as a minimum (some have huge terraces) , our room had a view of the VB volcano and the lake , decor is dated but it’s very clean. Nice pool , friendly and helpful staff. Free buffet breakfast (or upgrade to cooked for $6 a day) , easy parking , close to buses and trolley (we didn’t bother with a car as we were doing SW, DC etc free bus to Universal and SW but we just used Lyft) Little kitchenette was nice for that early morning cuppa or sitting watching the Valcano change colour at night. Onsite bar and also Pizza Hut for those evenings your feet just won’t go out to dinner and Chilli’s adjacent . It’s not glossy and swish but it’s comfortable and really good value for money . When we checked in my husband moaned about the dated decor (to be fair trip before we’d stayed at the Boardwalk) by day two he was saying , we’ll stay here again. It’s unpretentious and really good value . We’ve booked again for this year (obviously not expecting it to happen) as for an I Drive base it ticks all our boxes . |

Have a look at the Enclaves appreciation group on Facebook. There's a load of pictures of the rooms on there.

We have stayed at enclave twice. Most recent being in Feb this year. Found on arrival this year that they had renovated the breakfast area (doubles as Pizza Hut) and added a bar. Also renovated a few other guest facilities (toilets etc..) the room we had this year was better than the last we had. Bigger, still tired, but quiet and clean. Big balcony and plenty of fresh towels etc.. room was cleaned when requested, and was big enough for our family of three. Kitchenette is a benefit and was well stocked with plates and cutlery. We had a dining table which was good for us as ordered take out a few times. The staff are pleasant and very relaxed. They had a bar available on occasion but they were happy for us to take our own drinks round the pool. The grounds are fairly well kept and they have a good view of local wildlife including raccoons which were a novelty for us. They have a pool table, table football and a tennis court for guest use. All in all we would stay again but it is basic and dated.
