What are you wearing to the Airport - DAY 5 Duck Tours
Miami & Duck Tour DAY 5 – Wednesday 8th September 2010
Our last day in Miami Weather 86 Degrees with afternoon showers Woke up at 6.20am feeling a lot better, I need a day free of cocktails and junk food! We dressed and walked across the road to our regular breakfast haunt Jerry’s – well it had over 600 menu items so hard to get bored! Also the prices are really good. I had cornflakes and a fruit cup, Michael once again had his 3 egg omelette. We decide to try out Duck Tours this afternoon, the concierge books this for us and we head to the beach again to basically repeat yesterdays fun. Reading swimming sunbathing napping, total relaxing bliss! Back to the room we shower and I reflect on how much I love Miami and especially swimming in the Ocean, I hope we can do the same when we travel up to Melbourne. We walk up the road to the Loews hotel and lunch at Emeril’s its fantastic food and a total bargain $22 for a 3 course lunch. To start I had a lovely watercress and watermelon salad followed by Mahi Mahi and a peanut and chocolate pie, Michael had the same except he had a Gumbo to start. Our tour started at 2pm and as we were 45 minutes early we decided to walk around a few of the very very tacky souvenir shops. Despite the tack I still bought a few T Shirts At 1.45 we board the sweltering bus and cant wait for it to begin in the hope that a breeze is generated. The tour is only a third full and our guide is knowledgeable and funny. We pass the Miami Ink tattoo parlour and the 5th Street gym where Mohammed Ali trained , we see the house where parts of Scarface were shot. We enter the water and see Star Island an exclusive place where the likes of P Diddy and Gloria Estefan have homes. My favourite house was the one used in Miami Vice. The tour lasts 90 minutes and finished on near Lincoln Avenue. It was a lot of fun and I would recommend it. We decided to find Macy’s as I wanted a new cossie. We walked in the burning sun until we found it, it didn’t take long but we both felt dehydrated and immediately drank a bottle of water each, we felt instantly better. I found a DKNY tankini for $14 I only bought one, I could have kicked myself afterwards, I should have bought more! The tour had taken us by Espanola Way it looked really nice, here’s a bit about the place Española Way A long-time favourite of the bohemian crowd, Española Way is a historic Spanish village located in the Art Deco District of South Beach. With Mediterranean Revival buildings dating back to the 1920s, Española Way proves a colourful shopping and entertainment district designed to attract residents and visitors alike with its unusual shops, restaurants and art galleries. During the weekly Española Way Weekend Festival, visitors to Española Way may enjoy live music as well as an open-air market, where they can shop for handmade crafts, clothing, candles, flowers and more. Española Way is located in the area bounded by 14th and 15th Streets and Washington and Jefferson Streets. We walked back and spotted Espanola way, its two minutes from our hotel and when we saw the lovely surroundings it seemed rude not to find a nice spot and have a Mojito. We look at the nice restaurants and decide to freshen up at the hotel and come back for food. We choose a nice Mexican restaurant and have a really odd fajita lava bowl, it was a little bland but the Margarita I had with it made up for it After that we walked around for a while marvelling at the odd shops and eventually ended the evening in the Loews hotel having another two cocktails hic hic! We were back at the hotel and in bed by 9pm, I awoke at midnight to turn the AC higher, it was a really hot night, I noticed our neighbours were partying next door. A awoke again at 3am to turn the AC down and noticed our neighbours making the most of the romantic setting, of the rooftop terrace, both walking naked up the spiral staircase! Straight back to sleep for me and if I wake up again I’m keeping my eyes shut! |
