Mobile Any bad points of booking exit seats

Hi, I currently have the option of booking exit seats. I’m just wondering what the pros and cons (if any are?). Sure they won’t be available for long though.

I can only comment on Virgin.

The seats are narrower as the tv screen and tray come out from the sides of the seat.

The arm rest doesn’t move.

Children under a certain age can’t sit in them.

On the 747 downstairs the seat by the window has restricted legroom, due to the bulk of the slide in the door. Upstairs exit row doesn’t have this.

747 row 25 on the left gets off before anyone, as they need you out of the way for anyone else to get off, even before Upper and PE passengers, as they disembark row 25 left. Great on flight out as first to immigration.

People can stand in front while either stretching their legs. On the 747 row 25 right, people can stand waiting for the toilets, row 25 left doesn’t really happen as the toilets are the other side. Putting your legs right out in front of you stops people standing in your space.

Personally we really like them as no one can recline in front of you. But we book middle and aisle and if we can, get row 25 left.

The seats are a couple of inches narrower due to the screws being in the arms.

I think it will vary by airline...

However in general for exit row you need to be able to help in case of emergency. Also, you can't leave your bag under the seat in front of you (as no seat in front of you, and your bag would then block the emergency exit), so everything has to go in the overhead compartment except what you can hold on to.

What a perfect response. We always used to go for those seats years ago.

We were put in exit row seats in August on a Tui flight. I would not personally pick them as I found we had up to six people stood directly in front of us for a lot of the flight either waiting for the toilets or just stretching their legs. I felt conscious of them there and couldn't sleep at all. I also didn't like the chemical smell of the loos which I got a waft of each time the door opened.

The seat by the window had restricted legroom at the side due to the shape of the door which may prove an issue for some.

Personally they are not for me but when there are no people in front the legroom is great 😁

This applies to some BA flights too, the smell can be horrid, and can making snoozing/sleeping difficult with people standing in front of you. I was on the aisle and I'm sure every single person who went to the loo used my seat has a handle.

Personally I won't pay for the seats again

We always book these as dw is tall and has long legs. I like the open space feeling, yes people can sometime line up for toilets, but usually very friendly and someone new to chat to if you get bored

We’ve been moved to exit row seats for our flight next August with Thomas Cook. No idea why as the seats we had originally booked are still available. My daughter wants to keep them, though, for the extra leg room. I’m in two minds because of the foldaway trays, toilet queues and smells etc. It’s still a long way off so we’ll wait and see. I’m still trying to work out why they’ve moved us anyway 🤷🏼

Thank you all for the replies. My DH has concerns over the toilets and some of the comments have confirmed that. I also wasn’t aware they are slightly smaller seats.
Will book just 3 seats together.
We are flying BA.
