Gatwick parking - i've seen it all now

On the official gatwickairport site I put in my days and got rent and earn south as an option along with the normal long stay and short stay costs.

It gave a really low rate for 16 nights £29.00 but with this option they can rent your car out during your holiday and you get upto £160 per week if they do. If not you still get the cheap rate.
You drop your car off at the short stay carpark and obviously leave your keys.

Not for me , but its amazing what ideas they can come up with to try and make more money and save you some.

Mmm, not for me but I suppose it may suit some.

Surely though there must be a very limited market of renters who are flying into LGW and also able to drop the said 'rental' car back there? I know there will be some business travellers but not a huge amount though.
Maybe some European holidaymakers? But would they even think of this facility or go straight for the likes of Avis etc etc.

Bet it doesn't last a year and goes bust.

Why can't it be legal.
Surely if owner gives permission and there is the correct level of insurance then it's no different to any car hire?

The cars in question are covered by RAC breakdown cover and Allianz insurance. Both paid for by the Company not the person who owns the car.

Maybe they're just the honest ones, telling you they are renting your car out rather than doing it without permission (joke).

I agree that I cant see it lasting a year, the only people who are likely to be interested in this are ones with older cars and people dont generally want to rent those

Crazy idea IMO! Can you imagine coming back to find your car had been damaged in a crash & you end up having to get a taxi home... Be surprised if it lasted a year as well

I'm in the minority here and I don't think I would mind to have someone else driving my car, as long as it was all insured and legal. My car is a means for me to get around, it's not precious to me. Hubby wouldn't go for it though Im sure.

Wear and tear on the car, lots of mileage, curb wheels, nope not for me. I won’t let friends or family drive my car and certainly wouldn’t allow some stranger to either.
