Six Novices on the Slopes...Day 1.
Cast: Me...Michelle (40)
DH (42) DS1 (14) DD (12) DS2 (9) DS3 (7) Wednesday January 7th. Well after all the nerves & planning the day to travel finally arrives. All up at 4am to travel to Cork airport for our 6.40am flight to Munich with Aer Lingus. Flight pretty uneventful and we arrive on time. Pick up our bags and head to Dollar/Thrifty Car rental. We order a Focus Estate & they upgrade us to a Mercedes Estate. We are given an option of Snow Tyres for an extra 90euro & take them as we have never driven in the snow and dont know how much snow is forecast for the next week. DH looking well chuffed with his Merc. Probably will be his only chance to drive one for a week. Our journey to Lofer from Munich should have taken just over 2 hours. However 'we' entered the wrong Lofer in the Sat Nav and it took over 3 hours. Luckily I had printed a map also as I hate sitting into a car and totally depending on a Sat Nav to get us there. Finally we see the signs for lofer and we all get very excited. Frozen Water on the approach road to Lofer Our Home for the next week. Pechtlgut Apartment. Our apartment was a quaint little cottage about a 2 minute walk from the Gondola Station. It was always so warm and beautiful old hand painted Austrian furnishings. After dropping our bags we head to Sterm Ski School & get fitted for our Skis and Boots. Jeez those Ski Boots are so uncomfortable and really heavy on your feet. Walk back to our apartment and drop off our skis and boots & head our for a pizza and settle on Cafe Dankl. On the way back we find a bar at the foot of the slopes where the kids have fun sledding and Mom & Dad have a few Gluhweins. We call it a night & are all tucked up in bed by 10pm, it has been a long day and we all have an early start tomorrow... |
