We have some extended family members who are americans and they rented a Golf Cart while on Vacation and a car hit them (they were totally innocent driving up the road and the car driver had had a few to many!) and the cart flipped and basically disintegrated and they were both VERY badly injured and in hospital for a long while, they were obviously covered by their US insurance but my point is, anything can happen that is out of your control, if you are going to risk renting one without insurance then I would at the very least make sure my UK holiday insurance would pay out for any medical expenses should the worth happen as we all know how much medical care is should you need it in the US!
