"Magic"al Norway and Iceland Disney Cruise - Copenhagen/Little Mermaid - 14th August 2018
A continental breakfast was included with our hotel stay. It was excellent and served cheeses, meats, fruit, bread and the most amazing Danish pastries.
From our hotel we took a walk to The Little Mermaid. People had told us that it was very small to how you imagine and it was. There were lots of people there taking selfies and photos and lots of stalls selling miniature figurines. From there we walked to Amalienborg - the home of the Danish Royal Family - it was quite strange to be able to get quite close to stand in the middle of the courtyard surrounded by four identical palaces, as we are used to seeing Buckingham Palace from behind a big fence. One of my daughter's friends told her about a tower you could go up to get a view of the city and it was FREE! It is called the Tower in Christiansborg Palace. It is the highest tower in Copenhagen - you go in a lift, so no climbing hundreds of stairs! We then headed towards Tivoli Gardens as we planned to go there the next day. It was really strange to see an amusement park in the middle of a city. It started to rain heavily and luckily we had our waterproofs with us. We sheltered in a doorway for a bit with lots of other people and waited for it to ease. It didn't last too long though. We stopped off at a 7-11 store and bought some individual pizzas and took them back to the hotel and to have a rest. We went to Aldi to buy some bottles of wine to take on the ship. The weather was so much nicer after the downpour in the morning and we took a walk to Rossenburg Castle and walked around the grounds before going to the Copenhagen Botanical Gardens. The Botanical Gardens are part of the Natural History Museum of Denmark and I noticed there was a dinosaur exhibition on. It was a really nice evening to sit and relax and take some photos. We started to get hungry so walked back and went to Wok On which was a fast food restaurant selling noodles, rice etc. It was really nice and quite reasonably priced. When we got back to the hotel, it was such a nice evening we decided to take a walk along the canal as the atmosphere there was really nice both during the day and in the evening. We noticed a canal boat trip place and thought we might take a trip the next day. Steps today: 28,808 |
