the advice is to try and choose middle of the middle for less movement but as above i would also go for cabins above and below. I always find i sleep like a baby on a cruise though. Other things to consider are your proximity to stairs/lifts etc - will lots of other people be passing your cabin to get to where they want to be? I know a lot of people like rear cabins if they're having a suite

Is the cabins above and below so that we are not above the late night disco or similar?

We thought long and hard before investing that dollar as well. But thought what the heck - maybe wouldn't be coming to LV again.

Yes basically the reasons in my post #20
The reason we personally always go for a balcony is that we love pulling back the curtains nearly every morning and looking out at a new destination then taking our first coffee out there to soak up the local atmosphere. We always try to stay in the aft (stern) area of the boat as it's usually directly below the buffet. My first job (after getting dressed ) is to grab the lift up to the buffet and grab a couple of coffees. One advantage of the RCI boats is that they had kettles in the cabin. Mick

The cabins I am looking at have other cabins above and below, are mid ship (level) but are all at the front. There are some similar cabins in the mid aft, but smaller and more expensive.

The only reason we choose aft is because on the boats we've been on the cabins are directly below the buffet restaurant. Short walk to the lift to get there for coffee, breakfast, lunch then a few dinners. Formal dining rooms are usually forward in our experience. Not a very scientific way of choosing a cabin really.
Nine times out of ten though they disembark from the forward doors for excursions so we lose out that way as we have a really long walk. Seriously though our choice of aft cabins is only easier access to the buffet. No idea if they are more stable. The only time we've felt slightly uncomfortable was crossing the Bay of Biscay once when they closed the swimming pools because the water was sloshing over the deck. Other than that the Med and Caribbean were like mill ponds. Mick

I'm sure that you'll have a fantastic time. You'll soon get used to the ship's layout after exploring. If our first day is at sea we spend the whole day walking the length of the first public deck, change decks and walk back the other way.
There really is so much to do on a cruise ship. Just pick and choose what you fancy. There'll be a daily newspaper left on your bed during dinner outlining details of the next day's port and the on-board activities and shows. Usually a ship TV channel as well talking about similar stuff. Mick
