Mobile Has anyone ever booked a Disney holiday then had to move it to the following year?

Good Morning
I am so tempted to book on 25th April when free dine comes out for August 2020, however in the next year I am changing my job to self employed and there is no guarantee that I will have enough clients to be able to afford to actually pay for the holiday by the time the payment date comes around!
Assuming (and I know it’s a big assumption with it being the 50th Anniversary) that free dine for 2021 is released in April 2020 (before I would need to pay the balance for August 2020) would I be able to move my date to August 2021 (paying the extra it has gone up by over the year plus any amendment fee) and still get the free dine as the deal would hopefully be running!
There is of course a huge chance that I will get enough clients and this won’t even be an issue but I am hesitant to book it if there is no option to change dates if necessary!
Any advice especially from people who have done this would be greatly appreciated 😊

I had to move our holiday in 2016 to 2017. Free dining had already been released for 2017 when I moved it due to illness. I booked direct with Disney and they had no problem moving it.

They aren’t so flexible now. We moved ours recently and had to pay £50 but they say that was a goodwill gesture. There is nothing in their terms to cover this.

It will cost you a fixed charge per passenger to move the dates plus you will have to pay the prices they quote for the new dates not the prices that will be offered on the website

We took a punt on it, so £200? direct with Disney on the chance that we could go that year was worth it to get free dining.

We ended up moving it for someone's wedding (wish we hadn't now) but moved it from 2017 to 2018. Paid an amendment fee and the price increase.

With it being the anniversary year it is possible free dining won't be offered but still if you can afford to go next year and you didn't book it when free dining came out how annoyed would you be?

See it as an incentive to do well.

I had a similar situation some years back and because my new holiday worked out more than what i had booked, they were sympathetic and didn't charge me any amendment fees and transferred my deposit to my new dates a year later.

I had not booked flights with them though.I don't know if they'd do it if you booked flights and as they seem to be tightening up, i'd send an email and get it in writing from them before you book, so as you know exactly where you stand circa deposit and amendment fees.

You might want to contact them about this. I know they can be sympathetic if the reason for moving the holiday is unforeseen at the time of booking eg sudden illness or death of someone But they might not agree to it if the reason is you might not be able to afford it next year.

I am surprised at a lot of the responses on here! As long as you move it before the balance is due the worst case scenario you lose your £50pp deposit. However, as prices tend to go up year on year I have never had a problem moving it to a future and more expensive year for no charge... done this 3 x now (the in-laws are ditherers).

We raised this with Disney (our amended total holiday cost was higher) but they say their policy has changed and they no longer agree to waive the amendment fees
