riding coasters in the rain

A lot of posts on here are about weather and what to do when it rains, how often it rains etc...

Many responses are put on a poncho and enjoy your day.

The question i have though is that if there is no lightening in the area the coasters stay open right?

If that is the case, i just want to your views on coasters in the rain.

i've ridden many in the UK in the rain at our parks and found the experience to similar to having sand consistently thrown in your face.

rides like Wicker Man, Oblivion, Swam

Do you fellow dibbers ride in the rain and what do you think or do you stick to indoor rides only and enjoy the atmosphere?

Cheers all

Not all rides.

We rode Splash Mountain over Easter in a torrential down pour (note, it was not raining when we joined the FP queue, but when we got to get into the flume it chucked it down).

I guess SM is probably designed to work whilst wet, so didn't cause a problem - well apart from use dripping wet when we got off.

We rode 7DMT in the rain. It was a bit painful! The photos from it are hilarious but I wouldn’t do it again whilst it’s raining.

They'll shut most, including Splash if lightening is about, they have detectors which pick it up from miles away, can be no sign of it locally.
I spent an hour in the tunnel at Splash last summer whilst it was shut down in a moderate rain storm.

It may depend on which park and what they view as inclement weather. I did Kumba in the rain, and it was hilarious, I don't know if it was psychological but it seemed to be faster Can't say I remember a 'sand in your face' experience though, but then warmer florida rain is a hell of a lot nicer than cold UK rain.

Now, this wasn't typical florida afternoon rain, but it was enough to give you nice puddles of water to sit in when you got on the ride. Still, maybe lightning is more the issue for them than rain, as they are designed to experience florida weather day in day out without breaking down.

We rode big thunder mountain 3 times in absolute pouring rain, the train didnt even stop, the castmember just shouted do you wanna go again and the train carried on straight through without stopping 3 times😳😳we were so drenched but it was amazing!
They all have radar weather detectors and if no lightening they will carry on!

does the fast coaster in the rain not hurt though?

Love the idea of multiple rides
