Passport Expiry
Hi, My DD passport expires in May next year, which means it will be valid for 5 months and 26 days after out return home. Has anybody traveled with a passport that is valid less than 6 months, or would you advise to renew before we go?
Thanks in advance. |

The passport will be fine, it only needs to be valid for the duration of your stay. 🙂

You will be fine travelling to the US, it only needs to be valid for the time you are there. ( if this is a british passport you are talking about)

There is no legal requirement for 6 months for travel to Florida, indeed many DIBBers have travelled with far, far less.
The 6 month myth is perpetuated by travel agents having a clause that states: "You should have 6 months on your passport, but check with the Embassy for the specfic requirements". The US Embassy says your passports only need to be good for the dates of travel. In over 17 years of being on theDIBB I have never heard of anyone being refused boarding, carriage or entry into the US for having less than 6 months on their passport. |

Agreed as above, no problem. The only possible impact I'm aware of is getting an X on the slip if she uses the APC kiosk, but it only means seeing an officer and if the arrival airport is MCO, kiosks may not be in use anyway.

Your DD is fine and also no kiosks at MCO now.

What everyone has put is perfectly correct. Some companies are just confusing when it comes to passports.
We are doing a 2 night cruise next year. It leaves from Greenock with going to Belfast and then Liverpool. It was only £99 a person and having never been to Belfast or Liverpool it was a good little break. The cruise line are insisting on 6 months left on our passports. We do have that so there isn't an issue. I did try to point out that given we weren't leaving the country a passport isn't even required but they wouldn't budge. |

I'm not adding anything to all the correct responses about UK passports into the States but there is a difference with cruises.
People holding any nation's passport can book and board a cruise anywhere in the world in theory. So if that cruise calls at any USA port if the visitor doesn't come from one of the "6 months club" nations then they will need grace on their passport. Similarly a holder of a UK passport does need 6 months grace for some countries such as Malaysia I believe. I suppose it's just easier for travel companies insisting on 6 month's grace for everyone rather than having a massive check list with all the passport/port options. Mick
