We went to Japan in 2019 and stayed in Tokyo and Kyoto and took day trips to places such as Hiroshima, Nara and Hakone. If you are looking to travel around Japan at all I recommend buying the Rail Pass which is only available to tourists outside Japan. The rail pass covers the bullet trains and also for getting around Tokyo on different lines such as the Yamanote line. There is lots of info available online. I also recommend picking accommodation near a rail station if DIY.

DisneySea is great - we did not bother with Tokyo Disney as there were too many other places we wanted to visit.

We did DIY and had no problems travelling around. All transport and stations have English signage.

We loved Japan and hope to go back (had to cancel our trip planned for last year and again this year).

I visited in 2018. Booked flights with flight centre. I normally book my own flights etc. but they managed to find cheaper ones than I could. We went via Dubai and had a few nights there as it’s such a long way.

Stayed in a suburb of Tokyo (can’t remember it’s name) and then caught the bullet train to Kanazawa. Stayed there a few nights before moving on to Kyoto. This was a great base for visiting Universal in Osaka and Hiroshima.

I second the buying of the rail pass as someone else has suggested. I also hired a WiFi buddy which I collected from the airport. This was invaluable in helping us check google maps etc. on our phones without being charged roaming charges.
I did a trip report if you’d like a read of our experience.

DS12 loved Japan! He’s desperate to go back.

For our trip in May 2019 (and for next May) did all the bookings myself but it was quite a basic trip of:

Hilton Tokyo Bay for Disney days
Hotel in Shibuya for our Tokyo time
Day trip on bullet train to Kyoto
Last night was in Muji hotel (they are a lifestyle store, in UK in few places)

Meant to ask - what attracts you to visit that particular place?
Just interested :-)
