Flooring thickness, laminate, underlay etc

Hiya

Just a quickie, my builders are currently sorting my kitchen floor out. They are screeding part of it and boarding.

The board is 9mm, they've had me get the green fibre stuff as well and that is 5mm and then the laminate itself is 10mm that is 24mm, an inch high? is that right.. there is going to have to be a really sloped strip in the doorway?

Sounds right. However it will more than likely end up as 28mm give or take a mm.

If you are 'meeting' carpet you will have to come up with another plan as edging bars wont work. I would opt for a chrome or similar end bar.

That make it easier. There is stuff out there for that scenario

Have a Google of 'ramp transition' strips

They look like this. However there are loads of different colours, types, heights etc

All the good flooring places have them

That image is tile to whatever. But they do all different profiles.

What I have seen is various wooden ones such as oak and walnut etc that are curved and would be glued down and fit flush to the higher level which will be your kitchen floor. So coming out of the kitchen there will be a nice curve on the moulding down to the floorboards.

yes i've seen the laminate transition strips, but not sure they take the difference in height, they look like they are just for laminate/underlay height, we've got the extra boarding too.

They are out there. However that's where the curved wooden strip comes in to its own as that goes up to 30mm+

Edit. You could also use border edging strips which are L shapes. So fix down to the floorboard level and have the metal upstand up to the higher level.
