We are off to an Airbnb in Ripon for the week
Can anyone recommend and nice picnic areas with loo facilities within an hour drive The forecast looks great so taking our fold up chairs and a picnic sound just lovely at the moment We are thinking of visiting Whitby, York, Harrogate and probably Leeds Anywhere else to visit that shouldnt be missed |

I've not been for a couple of years, but Newby Hall. I think you only pay when you go into the gardens, you can do the long walk, picnic and the loos are in the car park before you have to pay. The gardens are lovely though, and worth the admission - great playground for kids!

I used to live nearby in Thirsk, North Yorkshire and loved to go to fountains Abbey at the weekend. There were tons of reindeer walking around as I remember. Loved it
Have you thought about a trip to Castle Howard? Link Might be about 50 minutes to get to from Ripon.

We were there on Thursday, It's absolutely beautiful. There are loos at the entrance, and at either end of the main walk.

There are some lovely walks from Pateley Bridge, but also plenty of facilities there and a good opportunity to see Nidderdale on the drive in and out (only about 20 minutes from Ripon)!

York is nice, the walk along the river at Knaresborough is nice too. Leeds has lots of roadworks, I live there, so not sure I would advise it during you week away, apparently it was great for shopping pre covid. Whitby can be a great day out too.

Skipton, Harrogate and York are all nice places to visit. The Whitby coast might also fit the bill and there’s the North York Moors railway with steam trains running between Pickering and Whitby where you can see Grosmont station which was used in the Harry Potter films too.
