ALthough it is a State Park have you tried the Sugar Mill Restaurant at De Leons State Park oldspanishsugarmill/ It is good fun cooking your own pancakes on the griddle in the middle of the table - it is about the only time my DH does any cooking.
There is a train route which runs between Orlando and DeBary with various stops along the route - we have taken this a couple of times and gone to different towns just to do something different. Edited at 10:10 PM. |

So pleased that Fantasy of Flight is to re-open, the kids loved it there. It's a shame there's so many people visiting Orlando and not managing to get just a few miles down the road to all of the other attractions. I can remember reading an article written by Kermit Weekes about the decision to close.
There is so much to see and do - try snorkelling at Peanut Island, West Palm Beach or a day on the water taxi around Fort Lauderdale. Get down into the Everglades, visit the Keys, go to the little local museums, love visiting Florida. |

We did this at Winter Park a few years ago. Captains are very knowledgeable. You can go by train as an alternative to driving

Also at Winter Park is the Morse Museum of American Art morsemuseum. It has world's largest collection of Tiffany glass including restoration of Tiffany's chapel
We did the boat ride and visited the museum in one day. If you are visiting in the winter months, and are going south near Tampa is a Manatee Visitor Centre by the Power Station, all free and you can see loads of Manatees and their young. Another trip is take a big ring with you and slowly cruise down the springs at Kelly Park. Take a picnic with you and have a relaxing day. You only paid for the car to park in the national park. Enjoy Melvin and Lesley

We went to the collectors Flea market at Webster it's pretty off the beaten track which was an adventure in itself.
Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing is good too (if you like that sort of thing)
