I’ve been seriously considering losing our TV licence. We have nowtv, Amazon prime and Netflix and apps on the tv to watch YouTube. We very rarely watch live tv anymore, I sometimes have GMB and this morning on but mainly background viewing, same with the chase at teatime. I am watching married at 1st sight and we watch gogglebox but could watch these on catch up anyway.
£13 a month is a lot for background tv, I think it’s the convenience of being able to just put the tv on that stops me from doing it! However I was like this when we switched from our sky monthly plan to nowtv and I’ve never looked back!

Do I need a TV licence to watch NOW?
You’ll need a TV licence if you watch any of the live channels with your NOW Membership, on any device.

You’ll also need a TV licence if you use your NOW Smart Stick or Box to watch BBC iPlayer (live programmes, on demand or catch up).

More info on when you need a TV licence

I don’t watch any live channels or BBC iPlayer
Only watch on demand movies, shows or sports, and don’t watch BBC iPlayer? Then you’ll need to tell TV Licensing that you don’t need a TV licence.

Do I need a TV Licence to watch streaming services like Netflix, Amazon or Now TV?

If you watch TV programmes live on any online TV service, including Amazon Prime Video, Now TV, ITV Hub or All 4, you need to be covered by a TV Licence.
You don’t need a TV Licence if you only ever use online services to watch on demand or catch up programmes, except if you’re watching BBC programmes on BBC iPlayer.
Remember, if you watch or record TV programmes live on any channel or TV service, or download or watch any BBC programmes on BBC iPlayer, you need to be covered by a TV Licence.

I never watch live tv on now, we still use the sky box for live tv so if I stopped paying the tv licence I’d just get rid of the sky box.
We hardly ever watch Iplayer so wouldn’t miss that.
I know I should really cancel the tv licence as it’s not worth paying it for the amount of live tv we watch.

So if you watch any live tv ie sport that is on Amazon prime live you do, if using now tv and watched anything that is being broadcast at the same time as on the sky channel then you need a tv license

We don’t watch sport so that’s probably why I’ve never noticed.

Maybe one or two series a year.

I rotate between the subscription channels running two a month. It works really well for me.
