We've no idea on degree subjects at present but would expect a Russel group to be a choice he wants so will look at good grades being better than more points.

One college definitely offers AS levels plus A levels which is why I'm asking questions. They agree they are unique in this in our area but promote the benefits of delaying the choice to limit to 3 subject by a year.

At the moment he wants Maths, Physics and Biology. He's not sure on a 4th but maybe Further Maths.

It's just a minefield. Thanks for all the replies so far.

My son has just started his A levels and is doing similar subjects (Maths, Physics and Chemistry).

He originally started at a Sixth Form college where only the very able students were allowed to do 4 A levels and these were almost all of those students who wanted to do A level Further Maths as it has to be taken with Maths. Maths also has to be taken when doing Physics (not sure if this is across the board, but certainly is with all the colleges my son applied to).
This college offered my son the option to take 4 A levels if he wanted to do Further Maths, but he chose not to.

As it turned out, he really didn’t like the sixth form college, so left and went back to his school sixth form. There they now concentrate on 3 subjects, but when my daughter was there, they started with 4 with the option to drop one if they wanted at the end of year one.
