Spiders
I just sat on my bed to put my socks on and found the biggest spider I’ve ever seen on my pillow.
I am totally freaked out. It ran behind the bed so my lovely DS has spent the last 20 minutes pulling out my very heavy bed to find it (all while DD sat with her cup of coffee downstairs as she ‘doesn’t do spiders’ apparently). I will be sleeping with my windows firmly closed from now on.😢 |

There seems to be a lot around this year Mary. We recently spent 2 weeks away in our caravan and had an awning attached to it. A house spider attached itself in the corner of the awning with her web and DD studied her every day (as you know she’s a biology student) and wouldn’t let us ‘remove’ her. She watched a male spider join her, the female then ate him, the female grew larger around the abdomen so DD thinks she was pregnant by dead male. Sadly we left after the 2 weeks and took our awning with us, after DD had carefully removed the spider into a nearby hedge for safety (where she was probably eaten by a bird 😂 )
It is actually the time of year when spiders try to move indoors from the cold winter outside, so it’s a good idea to keep your windows closed, although they still seem to get in somehow 😄 |

There does seem to be a lot this year DD. We were away in London last week and DD sent me a video on Whatapp. One of the dogs had caught a big one in the kitchen and was walking round with it hanging out of his mouth with its legs wriggling. She was horrified.😂 I think spiders are the only creature she won’t deal with, although I have asked what she would do if someone brought in a tarantula for treatment.🤣🙈

We haven't seen many this year, well certainly no more than normal.
I still chuckle though thinking back to when I was on shift work. I would come home and find a note in the kitchen saying 'spider on landing' or wherever it was. I would go hunting and find a spider totally encased in Hair Spray that was all crispy! Reminded me of Margaret Thatchers hair.

I think it’s the sheer size of them this year that’s freaking me. It’s like they have put in some lockdown lbs with the rest of us.🤣

I think all vets/biology students have one animal that they don’t really like. Spiders could be the one for your DD. My DD hates small birds, she’s fine with large birds like eagles/owls but small fluttering birds freak her out. However, the 2 work experiences she’s had have a been working with birds 😂 Thankfully, they were wading birds and birds of prey so no small birds for her to deal with. She has said she won’t be pursuing a career with birds though 😄

That freaks me out just reading your story. I am terrified of them and nearly didn’t open this thread in case someone had posted a photo! I get obsessed at this time of year and am constantly scanning rooms in the evening especially.
My husband is away for a night in a couple of weeks and I am dreading it because I need him to catch the spiders. |

Excited about Disney

I was about to go to the toilet the other night and saw something moving on the floor and it was HUGE but being brave I put a jar over it and threw it out.I’ve now bought a pack of lemons to wipe around my skirting boards as sspiders hate the smell of citrus.

We’ve noticed a couple of quite large spiders over the last 2 or 3 days.
We have wooden floors and I wonder whether they are more noticeable than on carpet, especially when you catch them out of the corner of your eye |
